Dealing with the reality of death. How do you?

since i've come to the realization and conclusion that i've been living a fictional lifestyle for the last 17 years, i've also come to identify with agnosticism.. .

but one issue that's been taking it's emotional toll on me lately is the realization of the fictitious paradisiac earth.. it was the ultimate goal as a witness- the answer to everything.

even if you had questions that couldn't be answered, you were to "wait until the paradise and ask" when you got there.. .

It's hard to accept death if you never took seriously.

Confliction I hear you. That is exactly right. As bornins death was something that happened to everyone else. Even the few deaths we had in our family weren't really deaths because they were about to be resurrected soon after Armageddon. They were just sleeping. They would wake up on the other side...... yada yada yada.

I know exactly how you feel. I went through every emotion from shock, disbelief, anger, you name it. I just could not swallow the fact that I was a goner. The realization that I was mortal humbled me like nothing else. I remember sitting and looking at my husband and saying ... "so we're gonna die too, huh?" He was like, "yeah I think so..." LOL.

Talk about culture shock!

I have to agree with everyone. Actually I had a major meltdown once I realized I was actually going to die. Imagine that! After being told from birth that I would live forever then to be hit by reality in my 30s. It wasn't easy. But you will get over it.

Most people don't want to die. But there is a certain acceptance of the cycle of life that we were not privy to as witnesses. It is the very nature of things to die. We'll be no better or worse off than anyone else.

Death does its thing whether we are on board or not.

Brings back awful memories of my ignorant wasted youth in the borg. 20 years ago, pioneering at 90 hrs a month, going to bethel, serving where the need is great.......... BOOOOOOO.

I remember one day I was sitting on my porch thinking about it all. An incredible sense of shame came over me. Being a born in there was lots of embarrassing moments as a JW along the way.

I thought "Man, this is really embarrassing!" Then I told my husband I was feeling that way. He said shamefully, "yeah me too."

After that we cracked up laughing at the irony of it all.

Weird JW response to death?

so i just learned on another thread that there are adults who have never been to a funeral, not that that's a bad thing.

makes me wonder because i got dragged to one at 6, and i still remember how i felt, what song we sang- and who i was sitting next to (an adult, not my mother for some reason) who helped me to stand up to sing the song because i was so distraught.

is it a jw thing to make kids go to funerals?.

"We do not mourn as the rest/nations do", is the JWs answer for all things related to illness and death. It's no wonder they have such a twisted way of dealing with these traumatic events

We all need bear hugs after living amongst the dubs. Here's one for you guys from me.

edited: You know I've had 3 long-time JW relatives die recently. And at each one the "brother" read and discussed that scripture about the disciples telling Jesus that Lazarus must stink......

Devestated. Our land purchase has collapsed

two weeks of waiting for the papers to sign, of making plans, telling friends and family about our land with the old hall on it.. yesterday morning i take a call from the bank... the independant land value prior to the bank giving the money has come in.. $24000 lower than the contract price.

so, the bank cannot offer any more than the 'real value'.

we cannot afford to pay more than this value or we have instantly gained 24k negitive equity before we even start.. i sat on that news all day, took wife to the opening of an art exhibition she is in that night, but on the way home had to tell her the deal was dead.

i was watching the dc talk on the generation overlap (remain in the secret place most high) on you tube.

watched and listened to approx 3 mins on this video clip and already wanting to shout and scream.

but i also had this thought about the experiences they read out and how real they were or just another wts bs, for example in the bit i heard they gave an experience of a brother who is bipolar and his battle when in fds.

Bitterness

how do you overcome this?

i just got done reading isocf and toward the end ray warns against bitterness.

i guess i just can't agree with that.

LG - Bitterness is a normal and human reaction when someone steals something precious from us. Don't beat yourself up about feeling that way. Allow yourself to fully experience any grief that comes, whenever it comes.

But at the same time continue to do the very hard work of moving past the bitterness. It's the moving forward that helps us to enjoy the time we have left.

Remain Close to the Governing Body DC

i just finished all 3 days of the dc and, for what it's worth, wanted to get down some of the highlights i enjoyed.

i went with family and i only did it for them, and hope to never attend another assembly ever again.. .

the whole thing was pretty boring and uncomfortable due to the stadium style seating which doesn't favour my long legs and ac being blasted too high.. .

It's really difficult to sit through the conventions once the blinders are off. All sorts of emotions to deal with. But you did it! Good job dropping off the TMS. That's a huge step in taking control of your life. It gets easier and better. Keep moving forward. You're almost there.
